Ronald McDonald Family Room™

We provide care, compassion, hope and love to families of critically ill children treated in hospital

Keeping families close to each other and the care they need.

Ronald McDonald Family Room™ is a rest and regroup place within the hospital for families of children receiving medical care.

The first two (2) Family Room programs were launched at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto on the 28th November 2013. The Family Rooms cater for mothers of children in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a neonatal ward 66 at the hospital.

The Family Rooms serve on average 100 mothers per day. Our Family Rooms are a safe haven from the stressful hospital environment during their visit to their children.

The Family Rooms operate from 08h00 to 18h00 on a daily basis. The mothers are provided with beverages, snacks and nonclinical programs. They are able to watch tv, read books and magazine and interact and receive support from each other and RMHC staff and volunteers.

In 2016 we registered 17 598 visits and served 7 734 families and children.
